The Check Engine Light
This amber or orange light — shaped like an engine block — is probably the most misunderstood light on any vehicle, including the Outlander. It can mean something as minor as a loose gas cap or as significant as a catalytic converter issue. If the light is steady, it's safe to drive your vehicle to our Service Center soon for a diagnostic scan. If it's flashing, that typically indicates a more serious misfire condition, and you should reduce your speed and bring the vehicle in right away to avoid damage to the catalytic converter.
The Battery Warning Light
When you see a red battery symbol illuminated while driving (not just at startup), your Outlander is telling you that the charging system isn't functioning properly. This could point to a failing alternator, a damaged battery, or a loose/corroded connection. Don't ignore this one — a charging system failure can leave you stranded on Route 19 without warning. We recommend pulling over safely and calling for assistance rather than risking a complete power loss on the road.
The Oil Pressure Warning Light
This red light, which looks like an old-fashioned oil can, is one you should take very seriously. Low oil pressure means your engine components aren't being properly lubricated, and driving on a low-pressure system can cause severe — and costly — engine damage within minutes. Pull over safely, shut off the engine, and check your oil level. If it's normal and the light remains on, do not continue your drive to Gazebo Park; call for a tow. The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Light
The TPMS light — a horseshoe shape with an exclamation point — illuminates when one or more of your tires falls significantly below the recommended pressure. On the Outlander, recommended tire pressure is typically found on the sticker inside the driver's door jamb. This light often appears in cold weather, since air contracts in lower temperatures. You can frequently resolve it yourself by adding air at a gas station. However, if the light stays on after inflating your tires, or if it comes on suddenly while driving, it may indicate a puncture. Stop and inspect your tires, and bring the vehicle in if you suspect a slow leak.
The AWC (All-Wheel Control) Warning Light
Mitsubishi Outlander models with all-wheel control may display an AWC warning light if the system detects a fault. This can sometimes be triggered by mismatched tire sizes or significantly different tread wear across your four tires — another reason we emphasize rotating your tires on schedule. If this light appears alongside other warning indicators, come see us promptly, as it may point to a drivetrain or sensor issue that requires professional diagnosis.
The Temperature Warning Light
A red thermometer symbol means your engine is overheating. Pull over immediately, turn off the engine, and allow it to cool before checking coolant levels. Never open the radiator cap when the engine is hot. Overheating can warp cylinder heads and cause catastrophic engine failure if ignored even briefly. Once the vehicle has cooled, check the coolant reservoir. If it's low, top it off with the correct coolant type (check your Owner's Manual). If the light returns, tow the vehicle — don't drive it.

“ Not easy to see the sign from the road but you will see the Mitsubishi's lined up and figure it out. Once I got a service person on the line it was easy to schedule something soon based on my schedule. The Service Writer was the best. I appreciate her advice and reminding me about my inspection in Dec and that I could do it early. She also called my Insurance company to get me a new copy of my insurance card. Waiting room is small and only a few tables if you need to work. Snacks and coffee available. You will be disrupted if there is a sale happening because you are right on top of the sales team. Service was quick and no surprises and they looked into my warranty/ free service items to see if my plan was still in effect from my purchase last year from the other dealership. Wasn't but prices very reasonable. I didn't feel like I was getting gouged. Would have liked it washed or a voucher to a car wash place down the street but ya can't have everything. ”

Paid $300 and heard the same rattle noise on my way home. Did I really need the $300 repair? This was 5 weeks after my state inspection, which they did. ”
